Ever since people started to decorate their houses, cities, towns, and churches with stars, Christmas trees, ornaments, multiple strings of lights, tinsel etc. Each one of us rejoices in/celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ in the most unique ways with joy and hope. But do all of us know the symbolism behind the Christmas tree and Christmas star that Christians decorate at the beginning of December every year?
Many myths and legends are associated with Christmas and Christmas stars but according to the Bible, ‘the Christmas star signifies the Birth of Jesus Christ, who is believed to as ‘the bright and morning star’.The day Jesus Christ was born, miraculously the holy star appeared in the eastern sky to show the way to the magi ‘the three wise men’ to find the newborn king.
During that time the magi were also astrologers from the east who studied the Jewish rabbis and were aware of the triangle shape that had appeared already before the birth of Moses. This is the reason that leads to the interpretation that in the Jewish land, a great man was to be born.
People also symbolize stars as great multitudes, wisdom, heavenly favour, guides, aspirations, and watchers. The star represents high hopes and the ideal of reaching above oneself. To celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Christmas star continues to adorn the houses and churches in every Christmas celebration.
Christians believe stars are symbolism of the angels. In many cultures, stars represent to be the souls of the dead. Other parts of the world believe, stars as connected with the windows or eyes of heavenly beings. The Pole or North Star is reflected as the gate of heaven and the navel of the universe. Some represent the very sovereignty of God offering direction and hope to the darkness of this world.
The brightness of the stars symbolizes the light of Christ, which gives brightness even in the darkness. It also represents the victory and enlightenment of good over evil. The light shows and guides us on the right path to take in life.
